Data is the new BABY!

Who owns the data in an organization? Is it the Business? IT/Data Team? Other?

IT / Data Team: ‘Hey, business people, your data quality is bad.’

Business: ‘That’s not MINE; you all own the data!’

IT / Data Team: ‘We are just watching the data for you. We don’t actually own it.’

Consider this analogy: if we liken ‘data’ to a ‘baby’, the business could be seen as the ‘parent’ who ultimately ‘owns’ the data. But what role does the data team / IT play in this scenario? Are they the ‘school, babysitter, nurse’?
