Bringing Data to Life: How NFL Stats Made My Friend’s Portfolio Stand Out

Recently, a friend came to me for help with her portfolio because she felt it needed something extra. I suggested adding something fun and relatable to make it more engaging, and we decided to use NFL stats to bring her work to life.

We started by looking at Passing Yards, with Dak Prescott leading the way. I helped her create a chart that compared his stats with players like Brock Purdy and Jalen Hurts, showing how their numbers changed week by week. It was a great way for her to show off her skills in visualizing trends over time.

Next, we worked on Passer Rating, where Josh Allen had the highest rating at 133.7. I suggested she build a predictive model to see how future ratings could be affected by things like touchdowns and interceptions. This added depth to her analysis, taking it beyond just the raw numbers.

We then made an interactive heatmap for Rushing Yards, focusing on players like Saquon Barkley and Jordan Mason. Users could explore the data by week or team, which made the whole experience more engaging.

For Receiving Yards, we used clustering to group receivers like Nico Collins by their performance. This helped her uncover patterns in the data and present them in a way that was easy to understand.

On defense, we used Sack stats to create a network graph that showed how Aidan Hutchinson impacted games by pressuring quarterbacks. We also built decision trees to connect defensive plays with turnovers, adding a fun twist to the analysis.

Finally, we looked at Tackles, using a time-series analysis to track players like Nick Cross over the season. It showed his consistency and overall impact on the field.

In the end, what started as basic charts turned into a full story told through NFL stats. The project gave her portfolio the boost it needed to stand out.
